Product description
I. Product introduction
 
Polyacrylonitrile fiber is also called acrylic fiber. It is 100% made from resin-supported polyacrylonitrile with particular techniques. By adding it to the asphalt concrete, it can largely enhance the performances of the road surface. Its function and perspective in the asphalt concrete has been more and more acknowledged and accepted by this industry.
 
HD-B polyacrylonitrile fiber for road reinforcement is co-developed and manufactured by ourselves and a famous domestic institution. It is tailored to the domestic road conditions, which is a new type of reinforcement fiber specially designed for the asphalt concrete to strengthen its resistance to cracking. As a reinforcement fiber product to strengthen the performance of asphalt concrete, polyacrylonitrile fiber for road reinforcement can not only enhance the adhesion capacity, stability under high temperature and fatigue resistance of the asphalt road surface, but also prevent cracking under low temperature and reflection crack. It can effectively improve its resistance to pulling, cutting, pressing and crashing, and all kinds of performance of the asphalt concrete road surface.

(1)    Enhancing the stability of the asphalt concrete under high temperature
The spread of the HD-B polyacrylonitrile fiber for road reinforcement is random in three dimensions, and the amount of fiber on the cross section is huge. It becomes an intercrossing net in the asphalt concrete, which increases the proportion of bituminous texture and reduces free asphalt. By this means, the asphalt concrete becomes more adhesive, and the soften point is higher. Thus, the stability of the asphalt concrete under high temperature is improved. During hot seasons, the space inside the fiber becomes cushion to prevent the free asphalt from being oily. This is another means to enhance its stability under high temperature.
 
(2)    Effectively improve the asphalt concrete’s resistance to cracking under low temperature;
 
By adding HD-B polyacrylonitrile fiber for road reinforcement to the asphalt concrete, there is a large amount of intercrossing individual fiber to improve its elasticity. Then the asphalt concrete has very good resistance to distortion and can keep good flexibility and resistance to pulling under low temperature. By this means, it can also resist contraction stress and reduce thermal contracted fracture so as to enhance the asphalt concrete’s resistance to cracking under low temperature.
 
(3)Enhance the asphalt concrete’s adhesive capacity
HD-B polyacrylonitrile fiber for road reinforcement in asphalt concrete can enhance the adhesive capacity of the asphalt aggregate and increase the adhesion between asphalt and aggregate. By increasing the adhesion between the oil slicks, the adhesive capacity of the asphalt aggregate can be enhanced to make sure the integrity of the asphalt road surface.
 
(4)Prevent the asphalt concrete from cracking and strengthen the rutting resistance of the road surface
HD-B polyacrylonitrile fiber for road reinforcement forms intercrossing net in the asphalt concrete. The occlusion effect of the intercrossing fiber plays the role of cracking prevention and enhances the self-curing ability to cracking. It also delays the ageing and breaking time, strengthens its elasticity recovery and improves its rutting resistance capacity.
 
(5)Enhance the fatigue resistance of the asphalt concrete

The polar nitrile group (-CN) in the polyacrylonitrile enables the fiber to have very good hydrophilcity. Therefore, the HD-B polyacrylonitrile fiber for road reinforcement can spread evenly in asphalt concrete under the normal mixing time.

The cross section of the HD-B polyacrylonitrile fiber for road reinforcement is cashew nut shaped. Compared with round cross section, this shape enables larger contact area with the asphalt aggregate. The detailed application scope is as follows:
1.  Newly constructed asphalt concrete road surface;
2.  Formerly constructed asphalt concrete road covering layer (black + black);
3.  Newly and formerly constructed cement concrete road covering layer (white + black);
4.  Fix, cold-patch or fill the gap of the damaged road;
5.  Surface the asphalt layer of the steel-structured bridges;
6.       Used on airport runways and water-proof layer of the bridges.

B. Construction techniques
It is similar to construct with the fiber asphalt concrete to that of the regular asphalt concrete, but there are some differences.
 
★ How to choose the Equipment to mix the asphalt concrete with fiber
1.Due to the addition of the fiber, the time to dry mix and wet mix should be lengthened to thoroughly blend the fiber with the aggregate. The capacity of the mixing equipment may be reduced a little. The reduced capacity of the mixing equipment leads to the delay of the construction schedule, so it is necessary to consider the mixing capacity of the equipment in advance, or shortens the time in basement construction in order to spare more time for the asphalt layer.
2. Regarding to the traditional continuous mixing equipment, it is necessary to have a particular machine to add the fiber. Due to the light weight of the fiber, the accuracy of the equipment becomes a crucial factor to the mixing quality. The uneven mixture of fiber may lead to the larger or smaller volume of the aggregate and affect the quality of the project negatively. Therefore, it is more practical to use the regular batch-type mixing equipment and add the fiber manually. It is cost-saving and easy to control.
 
★ The criteria of mixing asphalt concrete with fiber
1. Decide the proportion of raw materials for each hot aggregate bin and calculate the weight of each bin of mixture. Then decide the volume of fiber that should be blended according to the target proportion. Make sure the result is accurate.
2. Asphalt mixture should first be blended with the target volume of asphalt. Then take out some sample and have the Marshall’s test. Compare the test result with that of the laboratory proportion to prove the rationality of the asphalt volume, and adjust when necessary.
3.Decide the appropriate mixing time. As for regular asphalt mixture, the time of batch-type equipment is 45 – 60 seconds per bin. After adding the fiber, the time can be lengthened 15 – 20 seconds, and the recommended dry mixing time is 15 – 20 seconds, and the wet mixing time should also be a little longer than mixing the regular mixture so as to blend thoroughly. As a result, the fiber and the asphalt aggregate should be mixed evenly.
4. Decide the appropriate mixing and delivery temperature. The heating temperature of the asphalt is 130℃ – 160℃, and should last no more than 6 hours. The heated mixture should be used on the day of mixing. It cannot be heated repeatedly to avoid ageing. The heating temperature of granule is 140℃ – 170℃. And the mineral powder should not be heated. The temperature of the asphalt mixture to leave the factory is 130℃ – 160℃. When using modified asphalt, the temperature should be 10℃ – 15℃ higher than the maximum temperature mentioned above. The temperature does not need to be adjusted when mixing fiber.
 
P.S.: When constructing, the techniques should be adjusted according to the variation of ingredients and the environment in order to reach the best effect.
